🥭 Ingredients:

Serves 2–3 people.

  • 1 cup glutinous (sticky) rice
  • 1 ½ cups coconut milk
  • ¼ cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 ripe mango, peeled and sliced
  • 1 tbsp mung beans or sesame seeds (optional, for topping)

🍚 Instructions:

  1. Soak the Rice:
Rinse the sticky rice several times until the water runs clear. Then soak it in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Steam the Rice:
Drain the soaked rice and steam it in a bamboo or regular steamer for about 25–30 minutes, until soft and tender.
  3. Make the Coconut Sauce:
In a small pot, heat 1 cup of coconut milk with the sugar and salt. Stir until the sugar dissolves—do not boil. Set aside ¼ cup of this mixture for drizzling later.
  4. Mix Coconut with Rice:
While the rice is still warm, transfer it to a bowl and gently mix in the coconut milk (excluding the reserved portion). Cover and let it absorb for 10–15 minutes.
  5. Plate and Serve:
Scoop the sticky rice onto a plate or banana leaf. Add sliced mango on the side. Drizzle with the reserved coconut sauce and sprinkle toasted mung beans or sesame seeds on top if desired.

🧑‍🍳 Tips from Our Phuket Cooking School:

  • Use Thai glutinous rice specifically—jasmine rice won’t work!
  • Ripe mangoes like Nam Dok Mai or Ok Rong varieties are ideal for their natural sweetness and aroma.
  • Want extra flavor? Try adding a pandan leaf to the coconut milk while heating.

Whether it’s your first time cooking Thai food or you’re a dessert enthusiast, Mango Sticky Rice is the perfect dish to try. Sweet, fragrant, and incredibly satisfying—this dessert brings a little taste of Thailand to any table.
